Demi Lovato Says She ‘Sought’ Child Stardom to Receive Fatherly Love

The singer and actress Demi Lovato 31, recalled the beginning of his career and mentioned that his entry into the film industry could bring him closer to his biological father, Patrick Lovato who died of cancer in 2013.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the “Camp Rock” star said she always sought success because it would put her in her father’s eyes and make him proud of her. “I think part of me always thought that if I could make it in the industry, I would get the love from my biological father that I didn’t have,” she said.

“But now that I’ve dealt with these daddy issues, I don’t need the industry as much as I used to, and I’m proud of myself for getting here,” she added.

During the chat, Lovato also revealed that she was a “selfish child star.” “They were trying to punish me [sua mãe e padastro] and I thought I was on top of the world. I was like, ‘But I pay the bills,’ and what do you say to that?” he explains.

Late last year, Demi also mentioned that her problematic relationship with her father also got in the way of her love life. “I went through a phase of dating older men because of issues with my father, obviously,” she said in an interview with the talk show “The Howard Stern Show”.

Despite the statement, the artist said she had resolved all issues with her father before his death. “I can say with confidence that my father’s issues are no longer something that is inside me,” she said at the time.

For The Hollywood Reporter, the owner of “Confident” also gave spoilers for her documentary “Child Star”, from Hulu, which in addition to telling her own story, she also stars in her conversations with other former child stars such as Drew Barrymore, Christina Ricci, JoJo Siwa and Kenan Thompson.
