Demi Moore Addresses Criticism After Becoming World’s Highest-Paid Actress

The actress Demi Moore 61, spoke about the criticism she received from women and men alike when she became the highest-earning leading lady in the world — earning around R$68.5 million — by working in film “Striptease”, in 1996 .

Moore told The New York Times’ “The Interview” podcast last Saturday (14) that she received a lot of criticism when she reached the highest level of income for an actress. “With ‘Striptease’, it was as if I had betrayed women, and with ‘Until the Limit of Honor’, it was as if I had betrayed men,” she reported.

At the time, she was married to actor Bruce Willis, 69, and compared their salaries to understand that her income was fair for the role she was playing on the big screen.

The actress revealed to podcast Think: “If I’m doing the same amount of work, why shouldn’t I?”

Because the film she starred in dealt with nudity, she said she was criticized by her peers. “I think anyone who was in a position to be the first to get that kind of pay equality would probably have taken a hit. But because I did a film that dealt with the world of stripping and the body, I was extremely humiliated,” she said.

The new film with the actress, “The Substance”, hits Brazilian cinemas this Thursday (19) and won the award for Best Screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival.
