Democrats’ concern is more about the economy than about election results, says expert

As the United States performs the counting of votes for the midterm elections, this Tuesday (8), projections point to a majority formed by Republican representatives in the House and Senate, as he told CNN the executive director for the Americas of the Eurasia Group in Washington, Christopher Garman.

The interviewee reiterates that, despite the possible “red wave”, the Democrats of the president Joe Bidencare more about next year’s economic scenario than about the results of this election.

“I think the future of the Democrats and the White House — whether or not Biden runs in the election — depends on whether it’s a good economic year. The Democrats are more concerned with the economy and less with the result tonight, looking at the presidential election in two years,” says Garman.

In these midterm elections, all seats in the House are up for grabs, as well as 35 new senators and governors in 36 states and three territories. The result will be decisive for the future of the government of Joe Biden.

“We believe that the night will be Republican, in the Senate as well. For 2022, it is clear that if the Republicans prevail in the House of Representatives and the Senate, there will be a lot of reading that this is a bad sign for Biden…[mas] usually the party that governs the Executive has a setback in these elections, it is very common for it to happen”, adds the expert.
