About to make his debut in Rock in Rio 2024 , Dennis advanced, exclusively to CNN what the public can expect from his show. The musician performs this Saturday (14), at 9 pm, live from the Palco Espaço Favela.
“I’m saving a lot of things for this show,” he said. “But a little spoiler is that my biggest hits like “Deixa de Onda,” “Só Você” and “Tá OK” will definitely not be left out, as well as new remixes. I want to surprise the crowd,” he assured.
For the artist, who has been in the business for almost 30 years, being at the festival is fulfilling a long-held dream. “A huge recognition of the work we do and an incredible chance to showcase funk to an even larger audience.”
In fact, especially in this historic edition, which celebrates the event’s 40th anniversary, democratizing the line-up and including the typically Brazilian genre in the program reinforces the style’s power.
“It’s a rhythm that has enormous strength in Brazil and around the world, and this recognition at a festival the size of Rock in Rio helps to show the importance and richness of our sound. It’s another big step towards the inclusion and democratization of music,” he celebrates.
“Funk was born in the outskirts and, therefore, still faces barriers”, says Dennis
Despite his rise and emerging as one of the biggest names of today, Dennis also doesn’t forget his own roots and the challenges of his career.
“Years ago, big events didn’t give me the opportunity to play, so I created “Baile do Dennis”, my own event. But the important thing is that we don’t give up”, he says.
“Funk is a genre that was born in the outskirts of the city and, therefore, still faces barriers, but we are here to break these prejudices and show that it is art, it is culture, and it deserves respect and recognition,” he concludes.
