Dia reduces its losses by 51% until September and increases sales by 2.2%

The supermarket chain Dia lost 245 million euros in the first nine months of the year, thus reducing their losses by 51.3%. In addition, it managed to increase sales by 2.2% (5,194.5 million), as reported by the company, which today presented its quarterly results.

Between January and September, the gross operating profit (Ebitda) stood at 258 million euros, 171.1% more than a year ago. The net financial debt stood at 1,250 million, which implies a decrease of 72.1 million compared to December 2019.

Transformation plan

By countries (Dia is in Spain, Portugal, Brazil and Argentina), Net sales reached 3,365.6 million in Spain, 7.6% more. In Portugal they grew by 5.6% (472.3 million), while in Brazil they fell by 16.9% and in Argentina, by 0.7%.

In this period, and within the company’s plan to refloat the business, the number of stores has been reduced. In September, Dia had 6,207 stores, 6.3% less than in December 2019 (6,626). There are 419 fewer establishments, after having closed 424 stores and having opened five.

Of that total, 3,584 are owned stores and 2,623 were franchises. In Spain it has a total of 3,951 stores, after closing 76 in Dia, one in La Plaza and 120 in Clarel.
