Does your eyelid drop? Here are the solutions to bring it up

Less invasive than in the past, blepharoplasty is the most requested surgery in the age group between 40 and 50 years because it solves the problem of the sagging upper eyelid skin. This method has undergone a substantial evolution over the years and, despite having never confirmed, Renée Zellweger often entered the crosshairs of the comments of fans who asked her if she had done something to her gaze. The actress, famous for being a true transformer who has never been afraid of gaining extra pounds to comply with the script (her metamorphoses in the first two chapters of the saga are memorable Bridget Jones’s diary), in recent years it appears completely different: the eyes seem to have been removed of the skin of the upper eyelid.

With the help of specialists, let’s see what works.

THE NEW BLEPHAROPLASTY
«Plastic surgery today adopts a decidedly soft approach. The scalpel continues to be the only tool that, used without excess, allows you to effectively erase sagging and excesses that alter the harmony of the face. The interventions are increasingly super personalized and targeted, focused on small problems, with artfully positioned incisions so as to make the scars invisible “, he explains. Marco Klinger, professor of plastic surgery at the University of Milan and head of the Plastic Surgery Unit at the Humanitas Research Hospital in Rozzano, Milan. “This type of surgery requires a high degree of artistic skill on the part of the surgeon to ensure that the result is just a rejuvenation of what your eyes looked like when you were young.” These operations are always performed under local anesthesia with reduced sedation and recovery times, and essentially involve three steps. «With the scalpel, an incision is made along the fold of the upper eyelid, the superfluous is removed and the two margins are rejoined with a continuous intradermal suture, making only one point. It remains an almost invisible scar, ”explains Klinger. “For the slightest sagging there is the eyebrow lifting, which involves a small incision along the external section of the arch, the elimination of the superfluous, the lifting of the skin near the edge of the eyebrows and the rejoining of the edges”. The recovery days for both approaches are 7 and the costs start at 4,000 euros.

TWO AESTHETIC MEDICINE SOLUTIONS
For those who want to avoid the scalpel and want to opt for soft approaches to correct small sagging, the solutions are different. It is possible to intervene with the lifting of the eyebrow by means of the surgical suspension threads, which guarantee a result of about 6 months. “They are made of polydioxanone (PDO threads), a synthetic and biodegradable polymer, and are inserted under the skin by means of very thin needles”, explains the plastic surgeon Carmen Pisano of Acaia Medical Center in Rome. “This method generates an inflammatory reaction that also initiates processes of stimulation of the production of endogenous collagen which improves skin elasticity”. Results and recovery times are immediate while the cost can reach 500 euros.
A treatment that gives interesting results is Ultherapy, the so-called ultrasound face lifting, which allows relatively short recovery times between 48 and 72 hours, with costs ranging between 1,000 and 1,500 euros and results that last more than a year. . “These are microfocused ultrasounds that do not create damage: when they penetrate the tissues they are separated and then cross into the subcutaneous, creating micro-burns that trigger a regenerating process called neocollagenesis: the old collagen fibers weakened by aging are systematically replaced by new more toned ones and vital, ”he explains Mirko Manola, plastic surgeon with an aesthetic address and owner of the homonymous studio in Milan. “The instrument used for this method guarantees results and does not create damage only if used by properly trained specialists”.

EXPRESS HELP
It is useless to have any illusions: they have not yet invented the cosmetic that can solve the problem of drooping eyelids, even if the use of targeted specialties together with the use of massaging devices improves the texture of the epidermis. “Excessive tissue relaxation is a permanent damage to the tissues, and only a blepharoplasty or, in milder cases, other aesthetic medicine methods are decisive for a certain period of time” he says. Corinna Rigoni, president of Donne Dermatologists Italia. “Let’s not forget, in fact, that with aging, sagging can recur because with the passing of the years it is physiological that every element of the skin structure loses vitality”.
However, there are treatments inspired by aesthetic medicine methods that give transitory results thanks to special ingredients capable of creating invisible and flexible networks that, as if by magic, attenuate small sagging. They are not a solution, but they are a good SOS remedy that helps you look better on special occasions.
