Dollar jumps against the real after Lula’s victory in the elections

The dollar opened sharply against the real this Monday (31), in an initial negative reaction from the markets to the victory of former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the presidential elections on Sunday, although the outcome was already expected by most financial markets.

The session promises to be volatile, both due to the repercussion of the electoral result and due to technical factors, on the Ptax formation day at the end of the month – an exchange rate calculated by the Central Bank that is used as a reference for financial operations.

At 9:10 am (GMT), the spot dollar advanced 1.02%, at R$5.3565 on sale. Immediately after the opening of the trading session, the currency jumped 2%, at R$ 5.4088 on sale.

On B3, at 9:10 am (GMT), the first-maturity dollar futures contract rose 0.95% to R$5.3525.

The US currency closed the last session with a negative variation of 0.01%, at R$ 5.3023 on sale.

In this session, the BC will auction up to 16,000 traditional foreign exchange swap contracts for the purpose of rolling over the expiration date on December 1, 2022.
