The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, and the current American president, Joe Biden, are meeting this Wednesday (13) at the White House.
Images showed the two greeting each other.
In 2020, when Trump was head of state and was defeated by Biden in the election, the Democrat was not received at the White House, even though this was a traditional “courtesy” between government officials after the election in the USA.
Both leaders have harshly criticized each other for years and their teams have very different positions on a range of issues, from climate change to relations with Russia and trade.
The Democrat portrayed Trump as a threat to democracy, while the Republican portrays Biden as incompetent. The president-elect made false claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election.
“Almost rematch” in 2024
The 2024 United States presidential election was almost a “rematch” of the 2020 contest, as Joe Biden was the Democratic Party’s candidate to run against Donald Trump.
However, the current US head of state began to be questioned about his physical and mental fitness for a new term at the head of the White House.
Biden reiterated several times that he was ready to run and work, but a poor performance in the debate CNN against Trump increased calls for him to withdraw from the candidacy.
Thus, on July 21, the Democrat announced that he would not run for reelection and supported Vice President Kamala Harris — who was defeated by the Republican.
