US President Donald Trump, infected with the coronavirus, paid a surprise visit to his supporters outside the hospital. From a black SUV, Trump waved to fans in Bethesda, north of Washington, on Sunday, as seen on a video on Twitter. Trump wore a mask inside the car, in which at least two other people were sitting.

The short exit met with sharp criticism from doctors and US senators. “Every single person in the vehicle has to be quarantined for 14 days during this completely unnecessary drive by the President,” said Dr. James Phillips, attending physician at Walter Reed Military Hospital, where Trump is hospitalized because of his coronavirus infection. “You could get sick. You could die. Because of political theater. ”The irresponsibility is amazing.

White House spokesman Judd Deere described the motorcade as “a short, short-term trip to greet his supporters.” Trump then quickly returned to his hospital suite. Democratic Senator Brian Schatz accused Trump of endangering his own security people: “You are aware of the risk associated with the job, but the risk should not come from the person you want to protect.”

Deere said that prior to the trip, “reasonable precautions were taken” to protect the president and those supporting him.
