Doria denies having invited Eduardo Leite to coordinate the campaign

At a press conference at the PSDB’s São Paulo directory, the party’s presidential candidate, João Doria, denied this Monday (29) that he had invited Gaucho governor Eduardo Leite to be his campaign coordinator.

“I didn’t make that invitation. I invited Eduardo to talk, and he accepted. Upon his return from the United States, we will be talking so that he can play a leading role in the PSDB campaign”, said the governor of São Paulo in response to the CNN.

Doria leaves tomorrow with a delegation heading to New York for what she called a “business mission”. The governor is expected to open a commercial office in São Paulo in the city, and meet with representatives from the private sector.

He added that he would “never make” the invitation for Eduardo Leite to act as his campaign coordinator. “He is the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, and now he is back to playing his protagonist role, which is to guide the destiny of the state and the gauchos. We need a coordinator who is physically close to the candidate”, said Doria.

“He will have a leading role, yes. But that will be the object of our conversation after the return from the USA”, he concluded.

The winner of the PSDB caucuses took the opportunity to demonstrate that the work of dialogue with the candidates of the so-called “third way” has already begun. Doria stated that she has already talked by phone and exchanged messages with other pre-candidates, and that she intends to meet in person with everyone when she returns from her trip.

The only candidate the São Paulo governor named by name in relation to these conversations was former minister Sergio Moro (Podemos). “We have already arranged a meeting with him and deputy Renata Abreu, president of Podemos”, he said.

Asked about the possibility of giving up his candidacy to be Moro’s deputy, Doria said: “No letters, no numbers, no projection. It’s early and we have a long time to come to settle a decision of this nature.”
