23 OAED allowances will receive a double increase in 2022, due to the forthcoming successive increases of the minimum wage. This is because these allowances are calculated on the basis of the gross minimum wage.
Therefore, the next two increases in the minimum wage in 2022, will bring respectively two and even corresponding increases in bonuses.
For example, the most important OAED allowance, ie the regular unemployment benefit, corresponds to 61% of the respective gross minimum wage. Thus, based on the existing gross minimum wage of 650 euros, the regular unemployment benefit amounts to 400 euros.
From January 1, 2022, based on the government decision of last July, the gross minimum wage will increase by 2% and therefore will amount to 663 euros. This means that the regular unemployment benefit will increase respectively by 2% and will amount to 404 euros.
However, the Prime Minister himself, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, has announced a second increase in the minimum wage in 2022. In fact, the Minister of Labor, Kostis Hatzidakis, has stated that the second increase in the minimum wage will be “much more important” than the first.
Its sources Capital.gr report that there are scenarios for an increase in the minimum wage of 4% -6% on the government table.
According to the institutional framework, decisions by the government on the new minimum wage adjustment should be taken by July 2022.
In other words, this framework leaves room for relevant decisions to be taken and implemented earlier, for example by June.
Therefore, the second increase in OAED unemployment benefits should be expected around mid-2022.
If the scenario for a 6% increase in the gross minimum wage is verified, then the regular unemployment benefit from 404 euros (from January 1, 2022) will rise to 428 euros (from around mid-2022).
According to OAED data, the average number of beneficiaries each year is around 150,000.
At the same time, however, wages will double in 2022, which provide for various employment programs, such as the new community service program for 25,000 unemployed, which will “run” in 2022.

18. Subsidy due to unemployment of foresters
19. Subsidy due to unemployment of resin collectors
20. Unemployment benefit for insured persons t. ETAP-MME
21. Unemployment benefit for OAEE insured persons
