Drunk official lost documents with information on over 100 suspects for drug trafficking

Documents containing personal information on more than 100 people suspected of drug trafficking was lost by a Japanese finance ministry official during a party. The customs officer allegedly consumed nine glasses of beer in Yokohama near Tokyo last week before realizing that his bag had been lost, the NHK public broadcasting network broadcast on Monday. Inside the bag there were documents containing sensitive information for 187 people, including names and directions of suspicious drug trafficking and hemping packaging with hemp seeds. “The incident has significantly undermined the public’s confidence in us and we are deeply sorry for it,” the ministry apologized, stating in the local press that the official in question would be strictly punished.
