During a visit to the future naval base, Kim Jong Un highlights the importance of maritime power

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un stressed the importance of strengthening maritime power during a visit to a construction site for a naval base, state television reported on Sunday (8) local time.

Photographs released by KRT showed Kim walking through the construction site with officials near the shore. The exact location of the construction site was not specified in the report.

During the visit, Kim said building a naval base to operate the latest large warships has become an “urgent task” and stressed the need to build a naval port capable of operating the warships’ weapons systems, as well as unveiling military measures to deploy anti-aircraft and coastal defense systems to protect the port, according to the state media report.

In a separate visit to a shipyard, Kim ordered increased domestic investment in shipbuilding projects so that immediate tasks and long-term plans to lay the foundation for the development of the shipbuilding industry are fulfilled on schedule.

KRT also reported on Sunday Kim Jong Un’s visit to a defense industrial company, where he stressed the need to make munitions production more scientific and modernized to ensure the performance of new military equipment, and an inspection of an artillery academy.
