The eurozone economy continues to recover, supported by ample help from monetary policy, but growth is expected to remain contained in the first quarter of 2022, as the Covid-19 pandemic still weighs on economic activity, according to an assessment by the Central Bank. European (ECB).
In a bulletin published this Thursday (17), the ECB points out that the shortage of materials, equipment and labor continue to affect the production of some industries.
At the same time, the jump in energy costs compromises the income of families and the profits of companies in the bloc, which is likely to compromise spending on consumption and investments, the document says.
The ECB, however, points out that the economy has been less and less affected by new waves of the pandemic, which should help alleviate factors that restrict production and consumption, allowing for a “strong recovery” throughout the year.
