Members of the Ministry of Economy are already studying the possibility of revising downward this year’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) growth projection due to the impact of the Ômicron variant. The information is from the policy analyst at CNN Renata Agostini.
The biggest concern of the folder would be with the month of February, in which the Ômicron should reach the peak of contagion, according to specialists. This variant of the new coronavirus, because it is more transmissible, causes the removal of more professionals from the workplace, since it is necessary to comply with the quarantine even if the symptoms of the disease are mild.
The National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) even allowed airlines to operate with fewer crew members, after flights were canceled due to the number of professionals on leave. The situation is repeated in other sectors and should impact economic growth.
Even so, the Economics team is still more optimistic than the market, according to Renata Agostini.
The portfolio’s projection is for GDP growth of 2.1%, while the latest Focus reports, released by the Central Bank, expect growth of less than 1%, close to stagnation.
