The prime minister of Albania Eddie Rama condemned London today for comments it deemed discriminatory against Albanians, following the statements British officials who accused Albanian nationals of illegal immigration to Britain.
Crossing the English Channel in small boats from Immigrants is a problem for British officials, while with Brexit theoretically there would be better control of the country’s borders.
According to official statistics, Albanians now represent the majority of those making the crossing.
In a row tweetsRama emphasized that theBritish officials actively participate in “discrimination” against Albanians.
I totally agree! Fakti is that in Shqipëri nuk ka no pro-government media and most dërmuese e tire are maska rublaxhinjsh a gjobaxhinjsh against the government! The freedom of expression has been significantly reduced by the government, so the social networks do not show 95% of the work! pic.twitter.com/bXcR73wyFr

“The targeting of Albanians (as some shamelessly did when campaigning for Brexit) as the cause of border and crime problems in the UK is one convenient rhetoric who ignores the facts,” the Albanian prime minister wrote on Twitter.
Targeting Albanians (as some shamefully did when fighting for Brexit) as the cause of Britain’s crime and border problems makes for easy rhetoric but ignores hard fact. Repeating the same things and expecting different results is insane (ask Einstein!)

“Albanians in the UK work hard and pay their taxes. The UK should fight criminal gangs of all nationalities and stop discriminating against Albanians to justify political failures,” he added.
Albania is a NATO country & is negotiating its EU membership. It is also a safe country of origin. When Germany had a similar problem it tightened its own systems. The UK can and should do the same not respond with a rhetoric of crime that ends up punishing the innocent.

British Home Secretary Suella Braverman has come under fire for describing the arrival of asylum seekers as an invasion, with politicians across the political spectrum warning of the danger of using such inflammatory language.
Albania is not a rich country and was for a very long time a victim of empires, we never had our own. We have a duty to fight crime at home and are doing so resolutely, as cooperating closely with others too. Ready to work closer with UK but facts are crucial. So is mutual respect.

During a debate in Parliament, Braverman referred to this issue yesterday, talking about “invasion» in England by immigrants, making special reference to Albanian asylum seekers.

It was recently reported that 12,000 Albanians arrived in the UK by crossing the English Channel during the year, compared to just 50 in 2020.
The UK is experiencing a record number of small boat crossings across the Channel, almost 40,000 since the start of the year. The government expects the number to reach 50,000 by the end of the year.
Albanian gangs are thought to be leading the smuggling of migrants into Britain.
