Effects of Russia’s offensive in Ukraine reshape Eastern Europe

The European Union has recognized Ukraine’s candidacy as a member of the bloc, but the country’s entry into the group still depends on a long series of steps. The gesture intensifies tensions with the Russian government of Vladimir Putin, which opposes this movement of rapprochement and faces sanctions from Western powers.

At the same time, four months after the start of the military offensive in Ukraine, Russian forces are intensifying actions to consolidate the gains in the neighboring country and are looking for alternatives to circumvent the economic impacts of international sanctions.
