In total, during the period January-November 2021, the traffic of the airport amounted to 11.24 million passengers and, although it exceeded the performance of 2020 by 43.3%, it remained reduced compared to 2019 by 53%.

Compared to 2020, domestic passengers increased by 43.7% and international passengers by 43.1%, but lagged behind 2019 by 42.3% and 57.7% respectively.

Flights are at high levels

Despite the reduction of passenger traffic, flights to and from “El. Venizelos” remain at high levels for the season.

According to data from the European Aviation Safety Agency (Eurocontrol) the number of flights in the last week of November was 6% lower than the corresponding week of 2019, when at other major airports flights were at 30% to 40 % less.

With 2021 the focus of the aviation industry and tourism is shifting to the reservations of 2022, which appear increased compared to the corresponding last year.

However, the Omicron mutation threatens the euphoric climate that has been created for next year, where it seems that at least for the next few months the market will continue to operate with many last minute bookings.
