At 400.95 euros/MWh, the day-ahead market price in our country is set for today, reduced by 5% compared to 422.02 euros/MWh yesterday.
The highest price in Europe is recorded for tomorrow in Italy with 483.11 euros/MWh, followed by Malta (481.92 euros/MWh), France (471.64 euros/MWh), Austria (452.83 euros/MWh) and Switzerland (449.75 euros/MWh).
On the other hand, the lowest price concerns Sweden (49.88 euros/MWh), followed by Spain and Portugal (151.29 euros/MWh), Norway (178.61 euros/MWh), Finland (192.62 euros/MWh) and Poland (240.69 euros/MWh).
In fact, the indications are that we will have a significantly increased wholesale electricity price, as natural gas prices are expected to remain at high levels.
In this direction, after all, we had a 45% increase in the price with which natural gas power plants will be paid in August from 202 euros/MWh to 422.39 euros/MWh.
This increase essentially discounts the significant increase in the cost of natural gas for the current month.
This increase in the wholesale cost of electricity, although not fully passed on to consumption due to the caps imposed under the new wholesale market operating mechanism, is nevertheless expected to weigh on the final retail electricity costs for consumers.
This practically means that the need to subsidize electricity bills will increase significantly in the coming months. It is recalled that for August a total of 1.1 billion euros were given for subsidies.
