Elon Musk loses No. 1 on Forbes Rich List to LVMH CEO

Businessman Elon Musk left the post of richest person in the world, according to the list compiled by the magazine forbes announced on Wednesday (1st). The founder of Tesla lost the top spot in the ranking to Frenchman Bernard Arnault, CEO of LVMH, the world’s largest luxury goods company, with around 70 fashion and cosmetics brands, including Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Moet & Chandon and Sephora .

Arnault, at the top of the list, has a fortune of US$ 213.3 billion, according to an estimate this Thursday (2) of the magazine’s real-time ranking. Musk appears in second place, with an estimated fortune of US$ 183.5 billion.

According to the publication, Musk remained the richest person in the world until December last year, when his fortune declined due to the fall in Tesla’s share price. The company’s stock has dropped more than 50% from its peak in November 2021 to January 31, 2023.

The magazine points out that two billionaires left the top 10 of the richest list. Mark Zuckerberg, president of Meta, holding company for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, was the fifth richest person in the world in March 2021, with a fortune of US$ 97 billion. With the company’s shares having fallen more than 40% since then, Zuckerberg now ranks 22nd, with $55.2 billion.

The Indian Gautam Adani, from the Adani Group, who came to occupy the 3rd position in the ranking of the richest people in the world, ended up leaving the top 10 on Wednesday, after the conglomerate was accused of fraud by the North American investment company Hindenburg Research.

This Thursday, he appears in 16th position, with an estimated fortune of US$ 64.6 billion.
