The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) presents in detail the evolution of sales / turnover of all classes of activity in the retail sector.
Specifically, for companies in the retail sector with the obligation to keep bibliographic books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in October 2021 amounted to 2.8 billion euros, an increase of 6.6% compared to October 2020 which was set at 2.6 billion euros and a decrease of 1.5% compared to September 2021 which was set at 2.9 billion euros.
The activities that showed the largest increase in turnover in October 2021 compared to October 2020 are:
Retail sale of beverages in specialized stores, an increase of 41.5%.
Retail sale of footwear and leather goods in specialized stores, an increase of 37.2%.
The activities that showed the largest decrease in turnover in October 2021 compared to October 2020 are:
Retail sale of books in specialized stores, decrease of 4.6%. •
Other retail trade in non-specialized stores, decrease of 0.6%.

The economic activity class “Retail sale of beverages in specialized stores” which showed the largest increase in turnover in October 2021 compared to October 2020 includes the retail trade of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages (not for on-site consumption).
The “Retail trade of books in specialized stores” economic activity class, which showed the largest decrease in turnover in October 2021 compared to October 2020, includes the retail trade of books of all kinds.
For all retail businesses, excluding food and fuel, turnover in the third quarter of 2021 amounted to € 7.9 billion, an increase of 8.8% compared to the third quarter of 2020, where it had amounted to 7.2 billion euros and an increase of 5.0% compared to the second quarter of 2021, where it had reached 7.5 billion euros.
For businesses in the retail sector, excluding food and fuel, with the obligation to keep bibliographic books, for which data are available on a monthly basis, the turnover in October 2021 amounted to 1.41 billion euros, an increase of 8 , 4% compared to October 2020 which was set at 1.3 billion euros and a decrease of 2.0% compared to September 2021 which was set at 1.44 billion euros.
