Samsung has nominally unveiled a PCIe 5.0 SSD. The device is called PM1743 and is aimed at corporate servers.
The PM1743 will have a read speed of up to 13 GB / s and a write speed of 6.6 GB / s. Performance in the same order would be 2.5 million IOPS and 250,000 IOPS.
Samsung also talks about a 30 percent improvement in energy efficiency, up to 608 MB / s per watt.
The PM1743 will be available in a wide range of capacities, from 1.92 TB to 15.36 TB. There are two form factors: a standard 2.5 “and a three” EDSFF (E3.S).
Samsung is currently supplying PM1743 samples to chipset and server manufacturers for collaborative system development. The company plans to start mass production of PM1743 in the first quarter of 2022.
