In particular, and according to ELSTAT data, the employed amounted to 4,170,361 people, marking an increase of 228,355 people compared to May 2021 (+5.8%) and an increase of 53,362 people compared to April 2022 ( +1.3%).
The unemployed reached 596,056 people, marking a decrease of 130,016 people compared to May 2021 (-17.9%) and an increase of 4,495 people compared to April 2022 (+0.8%).
People under the age of 75 not in the labor force, or “people outside the labor force”, i.e. people neither working nor looking for work, stood at 3,067,657, a decrease of 127,661 people compared to May 2021 (-4.0%) and by 60,520 people compared to April 2022 (-1.9%).
