The French actress Emmanuel Bear publicly reveals that he fell victim of incest between the ages of 10 and 14, in a documentary she directed with Anastasia Mikova. “The aggressor was not Guy Bear“, the singer and father of the actress who died in 2015, Mikova clarified today during the presentation of the documentary, which will be shown by the M6 channel on September 24.
The director explained that she made this clarification at her own request Emmanuel Bear who was not present at the event “for family reasons”. The actress “does not want” to reveal the identity of the perpetratorbecause that is not the purpose of the film, continued her collaborator Emmanuelle Bear.
In the documentary titled “Un silence si bruyant” (A silence so loud), the two women give the floor to four people – three women and a child – victims of incest and Emmanuelle Bear reveals elements of her own story.
“If my father, my mother, my school, my friends don’t see anything, that means this will happen again. And you will repeat it for four years”, she says in a voice-over addressing her abuser. She says that “her grandmother saved her life».
“I didn’t want to speak, I wanted to create a space for the speech of others. To them, to their honesty, to their courage, I told myself I had to talk too,” the actress explained in a video message screened for reporters ahead of the film.
“It’s a plan I’ve had in mind for 19 years,” added Emmanuelle Bear. The documentary “It’s not a film about victims, but for creatures who have been victims and are fighting”says the actress in an interview with Elle.
The people who take the floor in the documentary are Norma, who was raped by her grandfather in her childhood, Pascalwho hid until she was 50 years old the sexual abuse she had suffered from her father, the Screewhose ex-partner abused her daughter from the ages of 4 to 8, and Joaquimwho accuses his parents of incest, which they deny.
According to the Independent Commission on Incest and Sexual Violence Against Children (Ciivise), 160,000 children are victims of sexual violence in France every year and 5.5 million adults were victims in their childhood, in most cases within their family. A situation that requires “a political and social response”, says Emmanuelle Bear.
