Published this Tuesday (7) by the Brazilian Institute of Economics, of the GetĂșlio Vargas Foundation (FGV Ibre), the Antecedente Employment Indicator (IAEmp) increased by 1.4 points and reached the highest level since December 2021.
It is at 81.8 points, on a scale of zero to 200, where 100 represents the point of neutrality.
As it is below the neutral point, the indicator is currently in a negative trend, although it has an upward bias at the moment.
In the historical series, which started in June 2008, the highest indicator was recorded in February 2018, when it reached 109.6 points. The lowest occurred in April 2020, the beginning of the pandemic in the country: 39.7 points.
With the variation presented in May, the IAEmp advanced two points in the quarterly moving average and reached 78.5.
The increase that took place in the fifth month of the year occurs because five of the seven components of the indicator showed an increase.
In them, the current business situation and the business trend are highlighted, both focused on the industry. The first advanced 0.9 point, and the second, 0.5.
Economist Rodolfo Tobler, coordinator of the survey, states that this is the second consecutive increase.
He points to the macroeconomic scenario, with high inflation and restrictive monetary policy, as responsible for a more gradual recovery scenario, which should remain positive for the second half of the year.
âThe improvement in the health situation, after the outbreak at the beginning of the year and a certain heating up of economic activity, seem to contribute to the improvement of the indicator. Caution is needed, given that the indicator still remains at a low level and with prospects for a slow recovery, considering that economic activity continues with a low projection for the year 2022 â, evaluates the economist.
The components of the IAEmp that presented negative variations are: current business situation, the services segment, and expected employment in the industry.
