Erdogan: Finally the bilateral talks with Greece

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said today, Wednesday, that he asked his country’s officials not to have bilateral talks with Greece, as reported by Reuters.

Today’s move by Erdo .an follows the statement he made last Monday that “for me Mitsotakis no longer exists, I will never meet with him”.

Erdogan’s anger was sparked by the Greek prime minister’s visit to the United States, during which – according to the Turkish president – K. Mitsotakis tried to block the sale of F-16 fighter jets to Turkey.

Speaking in the Turkish parliament today, Erdogan also said that Athens had violated its agreements with Ankara, including the establishment of US bases.

He said that he was in favor of a foreign policy “with dignity” and therefore “we terminated the Agreement of the Supreme Cooperation Council with Greece”.

Escalating his rhetoric, the Turkish president accused Athens of “demonstrating by taking off its planes” and called on it to “recover”, while characteristically stating that for the Greeks that “you do not take any lessons from history and then you start whining and cry. ”

In this context, Erdogan said that “we no longer have bilateral talks with them” because “unfortunately Greece does not want to get on the right track”, accused the “Greek Cypriot lobby” that it spoke against Turkey in Congress, while concluding typically that “we are tired of them now”.

It is recalled, however, that during the extraordinary summit yesterday, the prime minister briefed his EU counterparts on the new escalation of the Turkish provocation, while emphasizing that he would not be involved in “a personal characterization game with the Turkish president”.

“We have not yet seen proposals from Sweden and Finland”

At the same time, President Erdogan stated that Turkey has not yet received any concrete proposals regarding its concerns about Finland and Sweden’s efforts to join NATO.

It is recalled that Ankara opposes the entry of the two countries into the Alliance, saying that they support groups that it considers terrorist.

Speaking in parliament, Erdogan said Turkey wants to see an “honest” approach to its concerns from the two Nordic countries, adding that Ankara is not going to change its position unless it sees concrete and binding steps.

He also argued that Turkey’s objections to the candidacy were not “opportunism” but a matter of national security.
