Establishment and operation permits at the waterways of Corfu and Paxos

Corfu and Paxos acquire the opportunity to receive seaplane flights, as the licenses for the establishment and operation of their waterways came into force, with relevant decisions of the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Michalis Papadopoulos.

These permits were certified after the completion of the Inspection of the Waterways Committee at the “Corfu Port Organization SA.” (OLKE SA) and relate to the sea area of Limenas Corfu, Corfu and the sea area of Limenos Gaios Paxos, Paxos.

The certification of the two waterways was carried out based on the transitional provisions of the new institutional framework, as in 2014, during the term and then of Mr. Michalis Papadopoulos, these waterways were licensed, but the specific permits remained inactive for many years.

Establishment permits have also been issued at the Volos and Rethymnon watersheds, where the construction of facilities is pending, such as a floating pier, mooring points and a passenger service building, in order to be granted an operating license. The compliance of the operating license of the waterway in Patras is underway.

At the same time, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is in the process of examining another 25 applications for waterway permits, of which 20 relate to the establishment license and five to the establishment and operation license (Skyros, Alonissos, Skopelos, Patmos and Tinos).

On the occasion of the certification of the license for the establishment and operation of the waterways of Corfu and Paxos, Mr. Papadopoulos stated:

“After many years, today are the first stable steps for the creation of a network of waterways in our country. Corfu and Paxos now have the infrastructure to receive seaplane flights and I hope that if there is investment interest, Greece will soon acquire a a new flying means of transport that suits its geography and will make a catalytic contribution to tourism, the economy, but also to national cohesion. ”
