Ethereum continues to systematically approach the Shanghai hard fork. On March 14, the developers tested the update on the Goerli network, and in April the hard fork will be deployed on the main network.

While updating the Goerli Ethereum testnet, the developers encountered problems – several validators did not update the software before the hard fork. However, this did not interfere with the operation of the network.

“Deposits are being processed, but it looks like several validators have not updated their nodes. The problem is that ETH is worthless on testnets, so there is not much incentive for validators to update and monitor their nodes,” said Ethereum Lead Developer Tim Beiko.

As part of the Shangai and Capella updates, changes will be made to five different EIPs. Of course, the most anticipated changes to EIP-4895 are those that will allow stakers to unlock their ETH. When the hard fork takes place on the mainnet, in theory, stakers will be able to unlock 17.6 million ETH (about $30 billion).

However, it is unlikely that such a flow of ETH will flood the market. It is quite possible that many, on the contrary, will start using staking for additional income, since before that they were afraid to block their coins.

Recall that the update of the Ethereum main network will take place in April. The developers have not yet chosen a specific date for the Shanghai hard fork.
