European Commission urges governments to intensify response to advance of COVID-19 cases

The European Commission has urged European Union (EU) governments to step up the response to the coronavirus pandemic amid rising infections, Reuters reported Wednesday.

EU Commission calls for coordinated testing strategies in EU states, recommends the use of antigen tests. Announced the extension of the suspension until April 2021 of customs duties and sales tax on the import of medical equipment. He added that EU states could exempt COVID-19 test kits and vaccines from sales tax.

The Commission proposed fast-track border controls within the EU for goods transported by rail, water and flights. Put to provision of almost 2.5 billion euros for advance payments to secure possible COVID-19 vaccines.
