European winter will usher in a “dramatic phase” of the war, says professor

The war in Ukraine will enter a “dramatic phase” of the conflict during the European winter, which takes place in a few weeks.

This is the assessment of political scientist and professor at the Department of International Relations at UERJ Mauricio Santoro.

In an interview with CNN Radio he highlighted that the region will “face a very big energy crisis, not only in Ukraine, but also in Western Europe.”

“With the interruption of Russian gas supplies, it will be difficult to pay the bill to keep the house warm, in Ukraine it will be tragic, to rebuild the infrastructure affected by the attacks takes time and money.”

At the same time, Santoro says that Russia will enter a recession “due to the pressures and instabilities we see in Europe, it is a bad scenario for everyone.”

“For this reason, countries have advocated a solution to end the war as quickly as possible, as they are concerned about global food and fuel price inflation,” he added.

The professor also assesses that there has been a “change in tactics” by Russia, which has been betting on an escalation of attacks, this time with kamikaze missiles.

“They are being used to replace the lack of other military resources,” Santoro said.

According to him, Russia “is looking for alternatives to deal with the scarcity and wear and tear of almost 8 months of war”.
