Every geek’s dream: LEGO lets you build your own figurine for just $12

The market for collectible figurines is huge at the moment – users around the world pay millions (if not billions) of dollars for characters from their favorite movies, video games and cartoons, made in a wide variety of sizes and variations. And the LEGO company has been one of the leaders in this area for a long time – the brand has hundreds of different minifigures from the most famous franchises in its arsenal. But now the company has decided to expand this segment, giving users a unique opportunity to create a figure of themselves – with a signature hairstyle, design elements and even accessories for every taste and color.

To do this, the company launched the Minifigure Factory online minifigure designer, which allows everyone to create their own unique character in the LEGO universe. The constructor is actually quite advanced – the user can choose one of several head options, and then apply the hairstyle as close as possible to reality, then adjust the torso, legs and accessories. The torso was the most in-depth study — here you can choose a pattern, color, add small drawings and even write text. And, of course, the torso is divided into front and back parts, so that you can realize a variety of design fantasies.

According to Jay’s Brick’s blog, LEGO will manually moderate all user projects so that enthusiasts with a special sense of humor cannot create figures with any offensive inscriptions or drawings that could harm the brand. And, of course, in the online constructor there is also the opportunity to choose from a whole sea of accessories – here you can add a laptop, pizza or onion to your character. Some accessories the character can hold in his hands, while others are simply supplied in the kit and complement the overall picture.

The best part about this is that the figurine is only $12 – considering the product’s uniqueness and customization flexibility, that’s a perfectly reasonable price for a collectible. True, there are a number of restrictions – access to the Minifigure Factory is not available in all countries, plus sometimes the project is simply not available (even if access is implemented in the country). And only one figurine is given out per person, so collecting a huge arsenal of characters will not work yet – the system is in beta testing mode.
