Two corn snakes and a tegu lizard were seized this Wednesday (15) by the Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG). The wild animals would have been sent by mail to the city of Lavras, south of the state.
According to the police, after investigations, three suspects, all aged 19, were charged based on article 31 of the Environmental Crimes Law – “Introducing animal specimens into the country, without a favorable official technical opinion and license issued by the competent authority”.
The State Department for the Investigation of Crimes Against the Environment (Dema/PCMG) investigated information about parcels with recipients in the South of Minas. The animals were located at three different addresses.
The seized animals received the appropriate disposal. The suspects were taken to the Police Station and confessed to the crimes.
In accordance with the law, they signed a commitment to appear in court when summoned.
