Chinese company XPeng, which calls itself a developer of smart electric vehicles, spoke about an expedition that will test the operation of its Navigation Guided Pilot (NGP) self-driving system. The expedition will take place from 19 to 26 March 2021. The total length of the route, which runs through six provinces in China, is 3,675 km.
On the seven-day expedition, the Xpeng P7 Premium electric vehicle, equipped with XPILOT 3.0, which supports NGP, will be tested by media and independent parties. It will be the longest road trip in a self-driving electric vehicle produced in China.
The route runs along motorways for approximately 3145 km. All major functions are expected to be tested here and NGP reliability confirmed. The car will have to get on and off the motorway, move from one motorway to another, choose lanes, make advances and follow restrictions. The key indicators to be determined during the expedition include the success of the above functions and the frequency of human driver intervention.
It remains to add that NGP provides travel from the start to the end point of the user-defined route. The feature is available on Chinese highways. It became available to XPeng P7 users in January this year. Since then, XPeng P7 vehicles have driven more than 1 million kilometers under the control of NGP.
