All the important issues concerning the local self-government were raised in today’s hybrid meeting held by its leadership, with the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and ministers of co-competent ministries. In particular, in addition to the Prime Minister, the Ministers of Interior, Makis Voridis, of Environment, Costas Skrekas, of State, George Gerapetritis and Akis Skertsos, the Deputy Ministers of Finance, Theodoros Skylakakis, Minister of Interior, General of Foreign Affairs Manolis Grafakos. From the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE), the members of its presidency and the leaders of all the factions in its board of directors participated. This meeting was requested by KEDE, in the context of its meetings with the party leaderships, in order to inform them about the issues of Local Government and its positions.
In today’s hybrid meeting under the Prime Minister, the president of KEDE and mayor of Trikala, Dimitris Papastergiou, stressed that the Local Government has proven and is always present in every national effort, whether it is, so far, to address the pandemic and promote program, either to support social cohesion or to implement important development projects and actions.
“We have no room to waste another year” stressed Mr. Papastergiou and asked for even better cooperation and coordination “to become more effective”. According to information, both the president of KEDE and the other members of its leadership, raised at the meeting the significant lack of staff in the municipalities – especially scientific staff – and pointed out that the problem is worsening, both with mobility and with the except for posting of municipal employees. They also demanded an increase in the CAP, stressing that due to the pandemic there was a great deprivation of municipal revenues, while they pointed out that the financial situation of municipalities, as well as the bodies they supervise, will worsen due to the energy crisis and the implementation of landfill fees.
At the meeting, the issue of responsibilities was raised by KEDE, noting the huge problems arising from overlaps, etc. Also, the acceleration of the implementation of the “Antonis Tritsis” programs, the Recovery Fund and the new NSRF etc. was requested.
