Health impacts
Since the start of the heat season in March, the Department of Health has recorded seven deaths and more than 300 cases of health damage due to extreme heat.
In the period from April 24 to May 4, three deaths and 73 affected by the harmful effects of heat were recorded.
As detailed in the Health Department's report for the epidemiological week, “100% of deaths correspond to heat stroke” – a medical emergency that involves an increase in body temperature beyond 40 degrees Celsius. The deaths occurred in Chiapas (1), Oaxaca (2) and Tabasco (4).
During the same period in 2023, no heat-related deaths were recorded.
