EY announced the launch of the global competition, 2022 Better Working World Data Challenge, which is organized for the third year. The competition is aimed at college students and young data scientists, and is part of the global commitment of EY to innovate and leverage technology to meet some of the biggest environmental and climate challenges facing our world.
After a record year in 2021, with over 8,700 entries from more than 115 countries, including Greece, and two winning solutions Aiming to support firefighters in recording and predicting the course of forest fires, this year’s competition will focus on how artificial intelligence models can contribute to identifying and protecting biodiversity.
The loss of biodiversity worldwide is expected to hinder the achievement of United Nations Sustainable Development Goalsincluding food security, water and energy resources, and the fight against poverty. As a result, prioritizing geographical areas and species in need of protection is an urgent need.
Participants in the 2022 Better Working World Data Challenge will utilize field data, satellite imagery, and geospatial data collected by NASA, as well as other sources, to develop algorithms that reduce time and costs. required for biodiversity detection, while improving accuracy. Microsoft will provide all entrants with access to its global computer datasets and training materials to prepare them for the competition, and students will also receive Microsoft Azure credits through Azure for Students.
The winners, who will be selected by a panel of judges from EY, NASA and Microsoft, as well as representatives of the scientific community, will receive cash prizes, while the models / solutions that will be selected will be available free of charge. commercial purposes.
In our country, after the completion of the global competition, a sub-competition will be held for Greek participations. The distinguished candidates will have the right to participate, according to the procedures of EV, to fill up to five positions in the Center of Excellence in Data Management and Analysis and Artificial Intelligence of EY Greece, which is the largest in the country and undertakes projects in more than 30 countries. .
