Face Pay for payment by “face” in the Moscow metro: more than 15 thousand passengers on 4 lines

The details were shared by the head of the department Maxim Liksutov. At the moment, 15 thousand passengers are already participating in Face Pay testing, such a payment system operates on 4 metro lines – Filevskaya and Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya, Solntsevskaya and Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya. You can sign up for participation here. Maxim Liksutov noted:

It sounds fantastic, but about 6 years ago it was only possible to pay for travel with a bank card at one turnstile in the entire metro. The fare collection system in all Moscow transport has made a huge leap forward in technological development and convenience for passengers. The number of payments at the turnstiles by card or phone since 2017 (when the service appeared at all stations) has grown 213 times ”.

It is planned to soon connect all the remaining lines and make Face Pay available throughout the metro in October. As Liksutov notes, he also participates in tests on a par with ordinary passengers – he went through Face Pay several dozen times, and there was not a single mistake. Load testing was also carried out – testers went through Face Pay without stopping for half an hour without a break. Metro employees also now pass through the station only with the help of this particular technology.

Liksutov also stressed that it is impossible to pass through the turnstile using someone else’s photograph – for this, Liveness technology works, which distinguishes an ordinary photo from the face of a living person. Next year, 2022, the possibility of connecting Face Pay to the MCC, MCD, and conventional ground transport is being considered.
