Meta Platforms, the parent of Facebook, is behind a $60 million deal to buy the trademark rights of US regional bank Meta Financial Group, the companies said on Monday (14).
Meta Financial announced to the market that a company from the US state of Delaware called Beige Key has closed a deal to buy the rights to the names of the institution worldwide for US$ 60 million in cash.
“Beige Key is one of our affiliates and we bought the rights to the brand,” said a spokesperson for Meta Platforms. A representative of Meta Financial also confirmed the involvement of Facebook’s parent in the deal.
Facebook announced in October that its parent company had changed its name to “Meta Platforms” to underscore the company’s focus on so-called “metaverses.”
