“US monetary policy is appropriately restrictive“, said the President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Raphael Bostic, in remarks prepared for the Biennial Conference of the Reserve Bank of South Africa, which is being held in Cape Town, South Africa.
Additional comments
The policy is restrictive enough to bring inflation to 2% within a reasonable period of time.
We must be cautious, patient and determined.
Inflation in the US is still too high.
Inflation is on a clear downward path, we expect a slow continuation of the decline.
I am not in favor of relaxing the policy in the short term.
If inflation were to rise unexpectedly, I would support further tightening.
There is also a “moderate cooling” taking place in the labor market.
Given the lag in housing inflation, core inflation may already be close to target.
