The Federal (MPF) and State Public Ministries in Mato Grosso recommended to the acting governor of the state, Otaviano Pivetta, that the National Public Security Force be asked to act in support of the Federal Highway Police (PRF), in actions on federal highways of the state to avoid and undo blockages and to identify those responsible.
The recommendation was made in a document, forwarded this Sunday afternoon (20) and both bodies also asked that the Military Police of Mato Grosso be determined that the force of the corporation be maintained as reinforcement to the PRF to carry out territorial occupation in advance of the blockades and interdictions, if necessary, thus creating a safety belt for keeping traffic safe on the stress points on the state’s federal highways.
According to the MPF, the acting governor has until 12:00 this Monday (21) to express whether or not he accepts the terms of the recommendation. If he does not accept, he must explain the reasons for the refusal.
In the recommendation, the MPF and the MP-MT say that the PRF also asked the Ministry of Justice for the support of the National Public Security Force to act in the blockades and interdictions on federal highways. But the request was denied, as there is a decision by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) that defines that only state and Federal District governors can request the support of the National Force.
In meetings held between the MPF and the State Secretariat for Public Security, even without the capacity to end the interdictions, the state of Mato Grosso refused to request the cooperation of the National Public Security Force, according to the Federal Public Ministry.
“The recommendation is necessary, as several meetings were held between the MPF and the federal and state security forces and, ‘there is no permanent articulation, cooperation and planning, definition of clear and shared objectives in the definition of attributions for coordination and mobilization of troops, preparation of consolidated reports and action via intelligence channels to prevent new blockades/interdictions and, thus, faithfully comply with the decision of the Federal Supreme Court”, “said the prosecutors in the document released by the MPF.
A base of the concessionaire Rota do Oeste, which manages the region of the city of Lucas do Rio Verde, on BR-163, in Mato Grosso, was attacked on Saturday night (19), by an armed group that set fire to a tow truck in the area and shot at an ambulance.
In the same place, there are two active blockades by protesters who have paralyzed the highway since Saturday afternoon, according to the Federal Highway Police. The concessionaire does not attribute responsibility for the attacks to anyone, and the Civil Police reported that it is investigating whether there is a relationship between the same groups blocking the highway. A technical expertise was scheduled for this afternoon (20).
