Federal judge uses Spider-Man meme in decision; TRF-2 scolds

The Federal Regional Court of the 2nd Region (TRF-2) reprimanded magistrates after the substitute federal judge from Volta Redonda, in Rio de Janeiro, Karina Dusse, used the meme of Spider-Man in a court document.

The judge received a letter from the 1st Federal Court that, in fact, was destined for the 3rd Federal Court of Volta Redonda. In this context of administrative confusion, she used the meme of Spider-Man, where the characters point to each other as impostors, as a comical reference to the situation of error in the destination of the document.

Then, the TRF-2, which has jurisdiction over the States of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo, recommended parsimony in the use of informal expressions and images. Inspector Leticia de Santis Mello issued formal guidance on the use of cultural references in the legal environment.

In her office, the magistrate recognized the need to eliminate excessive formalities, maintaining a balance between accessible language and institutional seriousness.

“Although it is important to eliminate excessive formality in all communications from the Judiciary and ensure that the language used is simple and accessible to society in general, elements that could raise doubts regarding the seriousness and decorum of the judges must be avoided”, he highlighted.

Without citing the judge, the judges were instructed to use “prudently and sparingly informal expressions, cultural references and visual law resources in judicial acts”.

The original image comes from the episode “Double Identity” from the 1967 animated series “Spider-Man”, where the protagonist Peter Parker faces a criminal actor called Charles Cameo.

THE memein circulation since 2011, represents situations of confusion and irony, with identical characters pointing to each other as impostors.
