Federal Police arrest doctor and two people accused of defrauding sick pay in Piuaí

The Federal Police (PF) arrested, this Friday (23), an expert doctor and two other people accused of defrauding sickness aid and causing a loss of R$ 20 million to the coffers of the National Social Security Institute (INSS) in Piaui.

The PF complied with operation “Raque”, five search and seizure warrants and three temporary arrest warrants issued by the Federal Court, in the municipalities of Parnaíba, in Piauí, and Camocim and Chaval, in Ceará, with the objective of dismantling a gang that obtained advantages illegally through fraud on sick pay benefits.

The police officers also managed to get the Justice to determine the suspension of 56 benefits in activity, which if they were not suspended, would generate an estimated loss of R$ 880 thousand to the INSS.

The investigations showed that 386 benefits for temporary incapacity, linked to the criminal group with evidence of fraud, whose effective loss reaches R$ 20 million.

Two INSS servers were the targets of the operation, and the expert doctor ended up arrested, and the other server, just a search target. Both were removed from their duties and had their accounts blocked. Fraud occurred through false column expertise to obtain benefits for temporary incapacity.

The PF seized around R$65,000 in cash, two cars and firearms. The crimes in progress are criminal association, insertion of false data, misrepresentation and increased fraud. “Raque” means column, which was the disease used by those involved to obtain the defrauded benefit.
