On Sunday night, in Rio de Janeiro, the Federal Police arrested another suspect linked to the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, bringing the total number of prisoners suspected of involvement with the group to three. The man, whose identity has not yet been revealed, was arrested in Copacabana.
On Wednesday last week (8), the PF arrested two people and carried out 11 search warrants in Brasília, São Paulo and Minas Gerais. According to the investigation, Brazilians were preparing acts of terrorism in Brazil, focusing on attacks on Jewish community buildings.
One of the prisoners from São Paulo was detained upon disembarking from a trip to Lebanon. The PF believes that he arrived with information to pass on to his partner and carry out the attacks.
The PF explained that the objective of this operation, called “Trapiche”, is also to obtain evidence of possible recruitment of Brazilians to carry out extremist acts.
