Feira Preta will have ‘after’ at Sesc Itaquera

Throughout the month of November, Feira Preta, considered the largest Afro-entrepreneurship festival in Latin America, promoted programming on business, technology, literature, music and digital arts, in various parts of the city of São Paulo. The official closing of the event, which completes 21 years, will have a meeting in pocket format at Sesc Itaquera. In all, five Colombian entrepreneurs who participated in Afro Colombia will be present.

“This program was made together with the exchange between Brazil and Colombia. We will have gastronomy, entrepreneurship and shows”, says the founder of Feira Preta and CEO of Preta Hub, Adriana Barbosa.

Bambara, Africanía, Afroline, Renacer and Esteban África will bring a bit of Afro-Colombian culture in accessories, clothing, handicrafts, beauty products and makeup.

According to the 2021 Afroempreendedorismo Brasil survey, 35.8% of black or brown entrepreneurs are between 15 and 34 years old. Furthermore, 61.5% of these are women.

“We see how much the black population needs to overcome structural barriers, making it necessary to increase efforts and investments to support more diverse businesses, with a positive impact. In addition to being the right thing to do, we want to encourage other companies to join this cause”, says the senior director of Payments at Mercado Pago, Gabriela Szprinc.

Also according to the survey, carried out by Movimento Black Money in partnership with Inventivos and RD Station, the health and aesthetics segments are the most representative, with 14.3% of businesses run by black people, followed by e-commerce and retail with 10.4% and advertising and marketing agencies with 8.4%. Another important fact concerns education and training — 61.9% of black and brown entrepreneurs have higher education, and 15.8% have a family income of more than six minimum wages.

“Faced with so much creative potential, we cannot ignore the transformative and economic power of Afro-entrepreneurship. Women play a key role in leadership, representing the source of income for most families,” she concludes.

future expectations

In Brazil, the black population moves more than R$1.7 trillion reais, according to a survey carried out by the Locomotiva Institute.

The CEO of Preta Hub and founder of Feira Preta says she is excited for 2023. “Next year we want to ‘occupy’ Paulista with the Festival’s programming”, she concludes.

The event, which was born as a meeting for products by black entrepreneurs, has gained space and visibility since its first edition in 2002. Latin America.
