FGV points to a 1.5% growth in Brazil’s GDP in the 1st quarter of 2022

Brazil’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 1.5% in the first three months of 2022, compared to the last three of 2021, according to an estimate by the GetĂșlio Vargas Foundation (FGV) released this Tuesday (17) .

The so-called GDP Monitor also indicated a 1.8% expansion of the Brazilian economy between March and February this year. Comparing with the same periods in 2021, growth in March was 4.2% and in the first quarter, 2.4%.

According to FGV-Ibre, the highlight in the positive performance of GDP was the services sector, which has had room to grow and recover its activity levels after the impacts of the pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

“It is noted that GDP performance has still been driven by the normalization of the pre-pandemic level of activity and this effect is wearing off, which calls for an alert to the sustainability of growth”, says Juliana Trece, coordinator of the GDP Monitor .

The estimate by FGV is that the GDP accumulated in the first quarter of 2022 in current values is R$ 2.457 trillion.
