FIFA allows list of 26 players called up for 2022 World Cup

THE International Football Federation (Fifa) announced this Thursday (23) that national teams will be able to call up up to 26 players for the next edition of the world Cup football men. The maximum number of team members has increased by three.

FIFA said the change comes because of the unusual timing in the calendar in which the tournament takes place, as well as the impact of Covid-19 in the teams. The Qatar World Cup will take place between November 21 and December 18.

“The number of players that will be included in the final list will be increased to at least 23 and a maximum of 26,” the organization said in a statement.

“A maximum of 26 people (up to 15 reserves and 11 members of the coaching staff) will be allowed to be on the bench during matches,” the documentary added.

Uefa (Union of European Football Associations) adopted a similar decision last year, allowing teams to bring three extra players to the Euro Cup due to the pandemic.

The International Board, which sets the rules of football, this month gave the green light for the use of five substitutions in matches, which had initially been introduced as an interim rule due to Covid-19.
