Fifth suspicious death in Japan dietary supplement scandal

Japanese pharmaceutical group Kobayashi Pharmaceutical said today it is investigating a fifth death that may be linked to some of its anti-cholesterol supplements, which contain red rice yeast and are at the center of a major health scandal in the country. The number of people hospitalized in Japan in this case has risen to 114, the group also said during a press conference. Patients mainly present with renal failure. A case of hospitalization in Taiwan, which may also be linked to Kobayashi Pharmaceutical's dietary supplements, was also reported yesterday, Thursday, by local media.
