File Explorer in Windows changes a lot: new properties panel and home screen

The last major update of File Explorer came with the release of Windows 11 – since then it has been updated only once, when the long-awaited tabs appeared in the 22H2 update. However, Microsoft is not going to stop there and is already preparing innovations – the Windows Latest edition examined the file manager code in the new Windows 11 Build 25276 assembly and managed to activate innovations that have not yet been officially presented. They consist of a slightly redesigned main screen and a new details panel for the selected file.

As before, the file information panel is located on the right, but now it will be much more detailed. Full functionality is revealed in conjunction with a Microsoft account – in this case, from the details menu, you can manage access to the file, see the activity associated with it (and correspondence – apparently in Microsoft Teams) and documents that the system considers similar.

Windows Latest notes that the screenshots show a preliminary implementation of the updated option, so the final version may (and certainly will) be different, at least in design. Since the innovation is already almost ready, it should become available for testing in the next insider builds.
