Fireworks and honking mark the turn of the 7th of September in Brasilia

Heeding the call of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) on social media, hundreds of supporters gathered late Tuesday night (6), in front of the TV Tower, on the Monumental Axis, in Brasília.

In the early afternoon, the candidate for re-election posted: “To anyone who is in Brasília today, Tuesday, I inform you that the beginning of the 7th of September festivities will take place at the TV Tower. At around midnight, a fireworks display with the colors of Brazil will light up the city’s sky. Everyone can attend.”

Just like in the new year, the fireworks show started on New Year’s Eve between the 6th and 7th, at 0:00. It lasted approximately three minutes. Shortly after the fireworks, the sound system played the national anthem.

In a friendly atmosphere, with families and children, people sang the anthem dressed in yellow-green, many of them covered with the national flag or with flags with Bolsonaro’s face.

The report of CNN heard a person say: “It has become a political event, nothing to do with 7 September”. A mother told her son, “It’s the way we show respect for our country.”

After the event ended at the TV Tower, a motorcade passed through the Monumental Axis. There was a honk at 0:40. Even with the presence of the Military Police, some people took a risk between the cars, with the danger of being run over. Traffic was heavy until 1 am.

The civic-military parade is scheduled to begin at 9 am this Wednesday (7), at Esplanada dos Ministérios, in Brasília.
