Nikon has released firmware updates for nearly the entire line of Z-mount mirrorless cameras. The Nikon Z6 and Z7 have version 3.40, and the Z5 and Z50 have version 1.20 and 2.20 respectively.
The updates improve the capabilities of the autofocus system in all directions, but in the case of the Z5 and Z50, the improvements are not as significant as in the Z6 and Z7. Nikon says the Z5 and Z50 have improved AF modes with face and eye detection when using flash. The Z6 and Z7 cameras also receive this improvement, plus improved eye detection performance when shooting in Auto-area AF and Wide-area AF (L) modes. In addition, the refresh rate of the focus point displayed in the electronic viewfinder has been increased when using subject tracking or face detection AF modes.
The 3.40 update for the Z6 and Z7 also reduces the likelihood of display flickering when shooting video in N-Log or RAW with external recorders via HDMI in low light conditions. In addition, two bugs have been fixed. One was that the camera sometimes stopped responding when the Set Picture Control in the PHOTO SHOOTING MENU was set to Auto, and the other was that the camera sometimes exceeded the maximum ISO sensitivity selected in the MOVIE SHOOTING MENU.
Finally, all updates add support for the Nikon FTZ II adapter and the Nikkor Z 24-120mm f / 4 S lens.
